eSett’s Summer Workers 2025
This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming two motivated summer trainees to our team. Their time with us has been filled with learning, collaboration, and hands-on experience in the energy sector. In this blog post, they share their personal reflections.
We’ve truly appreciated their contributions throughout the summer, and we’re happy to share their journey with you — may their stories offer inspiration and insight into life at eSett.
Hi! I’m Annabella Kaasinen, now a third-year energy engineering student at Aalto University.
This summer, I have been working for the first time as a summer trainee at eSett as a part of the Operations and Customers team, and it’s been a truly rewarding experience. Although my studies have only briefly touched on energy systems, the hands-on exposure I’ve gained here has significantly deepened my understanding.
At eSett, I’ve been part of a team that genuinely values learning and collaboration. From day one, I was encouraged to ask questions, explore new ideas, and contribute to meaningful tasks. My responsibilities have included supporting customer operations, contributing to testing activities, and participating in communications. I’ve also had the opportunity to observe how different departments interact and how eSett maintains its role as a central hub in the Nordic electricity market.
This has been my second job in the energy field. Coming from a large organization previously, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a smaller company — but I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the impact eSett has and the strong team spirit that drives it.
The orientation was well-structured, and the work environment has been both welcoming and empowering. I’ve gained valuable insights into market operations, developed strong problem-solving skills and improved teamwork competencies. I’ve also discovered how my interests in energy systems and communications are both combined and can be applied in real-world settings.
I can confidently recommend eSett as a workplace to anyone curious about energy markets and eager to learn in a supportive, dynamic environment.
Hi!
I am Emil Stenius, a master’s student in Advanced Energy Solutions at Aalto University. During my studies I have focused on the energy market and on the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner alternatives. This is my first summer here at eSett, where I am part of the customer and operations team.
Before starting at eSett, I had a few lectures at university where the imbalance settlement process was mentioned, and I thought I had a good understanding of what imbalance settlement was about. However, I quickly realized that the real-world process is much more complicated and different from what I had thought beforehand. Over the summer through a great onboarding, I have gradually developed a solid understanding of how imbalance settlement works and its crucial role in the electricity market.
During the summer, I worked on many interesting tasks from customer service related to imbalance settlement, creating Power BI reports that help improve daily operations to test our new programs. One of the things I enjoy about working at eSett is that you get to be involved in a variety of tasks, which keeps you motivated and gives a better picture of how the whole company works. The entire eSett team has been incredibly supportive and made sure that new employees settle into their roles smoothly and are given meaningful tasks.
Overall, this summer has been a great experience, and I’d recommend eSett as a workplace. I am also glad to continue working at eSett after the summer and to start my master’s thesis in the autumn.
As our summer at eSett comes to a close, we’ve had a chance to look back—and it’s been quite the ride. Right from the start, the orientation gave us a clear and well-structured view into how things work behind the scenes. Even though we share similar academic roots in energy technology, eSett has done a great job tailoring our tasks to match our individual interests and strengths.
The work has been varied and engaging, and we’ve had the freedom to explore what excites us most. That flexibility has made the experience both meaningful and fun.
One moment that perfectly captured the spirit of our summer? Our most important mission: stocking the freezer with ice cream. That spontaneous task reflected the warm, welcoming vibe that’s been present throughout. It didn’t take long to feel like part of the crew.
We’re truly thankful to eSett for the memories, the mentorship, and the lessons we’ll carry with us into whatever comes next. This has been so much more than just a summer job.
