eSett API

eSett is upgrading its API platform to better support the Nordic electricity market. The current SOAP-based interface and Information Service will be replaced with a RESTful API built on OpenAPI standards, making integration easier, faster, and more secure.

The new REST API provides read-only access to eSett data. Market participants can retrieve information securely and efficiently, while data submissions to eSett will continue to use the existing communication channels.

The eSett REST API is currently available for testing and validation. Based on the current plan, production rollout is scheduled for October 2026. We encourage all market participants to familiarize themselves with the API, test their integrations, and provide feedback ahead of go-live.

Modernizing Our API Services

eSett is upgrading its API platform to better support the Nordic electricity market. The current SOAP-based interface and Information Service will be replaced with a RESTful API built on OpenAPI standards, making integration easier, faster, and more secure.

The new REST API is read‑only. Market participants can retrieve data from eSett, but cannot send data to eSett using the API. Write capabilities may be considered in a later stage.

The eSett Information Service will be discontinued after 2027, and all functionalities will be fully available through the new REST API.

Why Are We Modernising Our API Services?

As the Nordic energy market continues to evolve, and stakeholders need solutions that are simple to integrate and maintain. Our new REST API will simplify implementation, provide clear documentation through OpenAPI, and enable flexibility for future services. This modernization is based on feedback gathered through stakeholder surveys and interviews.

What Will Change?

We are transitioning from a SOAP‑based interface to a modern RESTful API built on the OpenAPI specification. This change introduces updated industry standards, improved security, and a dedicated environment where customers can test their integrations. Starting in 2027, the current Information Service will be fully phased out, and all data access will be handled exclusively through the new REST API.

The API provides one‑way access (eSett → market participant) for retrieving data. It is designed to replace the existing Information Service, but it does not replace eSett’s core messaging, data flows, or data packages. Existing channels remain in use, including ECP/EDX, SMTP, SFTP, and Webservice (HTTPS).

Planned Production Rollout: October 2026

The eSett REST API is currently available for testing and validation. Based on the current plan, production rollout is scheduled for October 2026. We encourage all market participants to familiarize themselves with the API, test their integrations, and provide feedback ahead of go-live.

 

 

Join Pilot Testing

Stakeholders are invited to participate in shaping the new API and to provide feedback on their experience.

This spring, eSett enhanced the API Test Environment by enabling access to production-like data. Market participants can use their existing Online Service user configurations and test API integrations under more realistic conditions based on their assigned permissions.

We encourage all users to share feedback throughout the testing period. Your input is valuable in helping us improve functionality and ensure the API meets your needs. The feedback form is available on the API registration page (see the left-hand menu).

Please note that, although the data is based on production data, it should be considered representative rather than complete or final. As this remains a test environment, data content, availability, and setup may change over time.

How to Request Access

Access to the test environment is only available to users who have an Online Service user account with External Interface rights.

To access the eSett API, we kindly ask you to submit your source IP address (or IP range) together with any required whitelisting details. This information is needed so that eSett can configure the necessary firewall rules and enable connectivity to the API environments.

You can request access in two ways:

  1. Use the ready-made Outlook email template
    Simply open this Template Request eSett API access in Outlook, fill in the required information, and send it.
  2. Copy and paste the text from this document
    Copy the content from the document Requesting access to eSett API, complete the fields, and send the email to the address provided in the document.

Once we receive your request, eSett will review the information, set up the necessary firewall rules based on your IP details, and contact you with the next steps for issuing your credentials.
