eSett API

eSett has introduced a modern REST API platform to better support the Nordic electricity market. The REST API is built on OpenAPI standards, making integration easier, faster, and more secure.

The new REST API provides read-only access to eSett data. Market participants can retrieve information securely and efficiently, while data submissions to eSett will continue to use the existing communication channels.

The eSett REST API is now available in production. Market participants can use the Production API to retrieve operational data and the Test API to develop and validate integrations in a separate test environment.

We encourage all market participants to familiarize themselves with the API and begin using it as part of their integration strategy ahead of the discontinuation of the Information Service in May 2027.

Modernizing Our API Services

eSett is upgrading its API platform to better support the Nordic electricity market. The eSett REST API has been introduced as the next generation interface for accessing eSett data. The API will gradually replace the current Information Service, which will be discontinued after May 2027.

The new REST API is read‑only. Market participants can retrieve data from eSett, but cannot send data to eSett using the API. Write capabilities may be considered in a later stage.

The eSett Information Service will be discontinued after May 2027, and all functionalities will be fully available through the new REST API.

 

Why Are We Modernising Our API Services?

As the Nordic energy market continues to evolve, stakeholders need solutions that are simple to integrate and maintain. Our new REST API will simplify implementation, provide clear documentation through OpenAPI, and enable flexibility for future services. This modernization is based on feedback gathered through stakeholder surveys and interviews.

 

What Will Change?

eSett has introduced a modern RESTful API based on the OpenAPI specification. The API provides secure and standardised access to eSett data and serves as the long-term replacement for the current Information Service.

Until May 2027, both services will remain available to support customer migration.

The API provides one‑way access (eSett → market participant) for retrieving data. It is designed to replace the existing Information Service, but it does not replace eSett’s core messaging, data flows, or data packages. Existing channels remain in use, including ECP/EDX, SMTP, SFTP, and Webservice (HTTPS).

 

REST API Available in Production

The eSett REST API was launched in production on 6 October 2026.

Two API environments are available:

  • Production API – provides access to production data for authorised users with a production Online Service user account and the required API access rights.
  • Test API – provides access to test data and can be used for development, testing, and validation purposes. Access requires a test Online Service user account and the required API access rights.

 

 

 

Test and Production API Environments

eSett will continue to develop the API based on customer feedback and evolving market needs. We welcome input from market participants to help prioritise future enhancements, functionalities, and use cases.

The eSett REST API is available in both Test and Production environments.

The Test API Environment is intended for development, testing, and validation of integrations. It uses test data and should not be used for operational purposes. The Production API Environment provides access to operational data for authorised users.

Both environments use the same API structure and authentication principles, making it easier to move integrations from testing to production. eSett strongly recommends testing and validating integrations in the Test API Environment before accessing the Production API Environment.

 

How to Request Access

Access can be requested for the Test API Environment, the Production API Environment, or both environments.

Access to the Test API Environment requires a test Online Service user account with External Interface rights. Access to the Production API Environment requires a production Online Service user account with External Interface rights.

When submitting your access request, please specify whether access is required for the Test API Environment, the Production API Environment, or both environments.

eSett encourages all market participants to develop, test, and validate their integrations in the Test API Environment before requesting access to the Production API Environment. This allows users to verify their integrations and become familiar with the API functionality before accessing production data.

To access the eSett API, we kindly ask you to submit your source IP address (or IP range) together with any required whitelisting details. This information is needed so that eSett can configure the necessary firewall rules and enable connectivity to the requested API environment(s).
