Separation of Minor and Normal production types originate from the earlier two-balance model (prior November 2021), where Normal production was handled in Production Imbalance and Minor production in Consumption Imbalance. Today, this separation is no longer needed, and the plan is to decommission the minor type and update all existing minor production into normal production. The aim is to move forward with the change around the same time in Finland, Norway and Sweden where minor production is in use.

Short introduction on the change

For more information about the project, please see the document Decommissioning of Minor Production at the bottom of the page.

There is no longer a justified reason to separate minor and normal production in the imbalance settlement. The split between the two production types is a remnant from the two-balance model prior November 2021, where normal production was handled in the BRP’s Production Imbalance calculation and minor production was handled in the BRP’s Consumption Imbalance calculation.

The change will impact market participants in Finland, Norway and Sweden. In Denmark there is no minor production and therefore no impact. Impacted business areas per country are presented the table below.

✅Impact
🚫No impact

eSett will handle the technical change of types for the different structures. Market participants need to update their systems so that current structures and timeseries which have production type minor will be handled as type normal from specified delivery date.

Data flows which use the attribute ProductionType will be impacted. As currently there can be used Z01 (normal) or Z02 (minor) depending on the structure or timeseries that the data flow refers to. Starting from the specified delivery date, all current minor production (Z02) will be updated to type normal production (Z01).

Time plan for the change per country

  • Finland: Two months after the Energy Authority has approved the terms and conditions, or earliest from September 2026. Exact date will be announced later
  • Sweden: Starting from delivery day 1st November 2026.
  • Norway: Starting from delivery day 1st November 2026.

Introduction and impact analysis

eSett has published a document regarding the decommissioning of minor production. It contains more detailed information about the project and its impacts on different market participants and countries. The plan will be updated based on the updated information in the project.
