eSett delivers trusted settlement and data services for the Nordic electricity market. We ensure that electricity market participants are settled, invoiced and compensated accurately and on time.

eSett operates a harmonised settlement model across the Nordic countries, providing equal market conditions for the market participants. This supports competition, improves market efficiency and helps create a well-functioning electricity market for the benefit of consumers across the Nordics.

eSett operates with the mandate of its owners, the four Nordic Transmission System Operators – Energinet (Denmark), Fingrid (Finland), Statnett (Norway) and Svenska kraftnät (Sweden). We serve over 1,000 electricity market participants in the Nordics.

What is electricity market settlement?

Electricity production and consumption must always stay in balance.

Market participants known as Balance Responsible Parties (BRPs) are responsible for planning and maintaining this balance. They plan their operations carefully, but in practice deviations from these plans can occur. These deviations are called imbalances.

Another group of market participants, known as Balancing Service Providers (BSPs), helps maintain system balance by providing reserve market products to the electricity market.

eSett calculates the imbalances and manages the invoicing of imbalances and selected reserve market services in the Nordic electricity market.
