eSett’s Summer Workers 2026

My name is Nea Tiesmäki, and this summer I have been working at eSett as a Finance Summer Trainee. I am currently a master’s student at the University of Jyväskylä School of Business and Economics, majoring in Accounting and Finance.

My first few weeks were spent getting to know eSett, its operations, and the different tasks within the company. There was a huge amount of new information to absorb, and at times it felt like I learned more in a single week than I had during months of studying.

At first, I spent a lot of time observing how the finance team worked and familiarizing myself with the company’s practices and systems. Once I gained access to the necessary tools and systems, I was able to take on more responsibility and become involved in daily finance operations. My tasks have included processing, reviewing, and recording invoices, monitoring payments, preparing reports, and reconciling financial data. I have also been in contact with banks and various participants in the electricity market, while assisting with monthly reporting and financial close activities. Along the way, I have had the opportunity to develop my accounting skills and gain practical experience in different areas of financial management.

In addition to my finance responsibilities, the summer has included several memorable projects that have brought a welcome variety to my workdays. On my second day at work, I was asked whether I would like to join the office renovation project, and I immediately said yes. I had the chance to participate in selecting new office furniture and helping with the practical arrangements of the renovation together with an amazing team. I have also been involved in planning office events, including a summer barbecue and our office housewarming celebration. Of course, one of the highlights of the summer was the shopping trip with Annabella to stock up the office freezer with ice cream for the summer!

Overall, I feel that I have learned a tremendous amount during the summer. It has been rewarding to build my skills through practical finance tasks and to see my responsibilities grow as my confidence and knowledge develop. I have tried to approach every new challenge with an open mind and make the most of every learning opportunity. While there is still plenty left to learn, it has been exciting to see how much my understanding of eSett’s operations and the electricity market has grown throughout the summer. eSett plays an important role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the Nordic electricity market and my interest in the energy sector has increased significantly during these past months. In addition to the valuable experience, one of the best parts of the summer has been the supportive work environment, great colleagues, and the opportunity to contribute to a variety of projects. My summer at eSett has been educational, inspiring, and above all, a truly enjoyable experience.

 

Hi again! I’m Annabella Kaasinen, and this autumn I’ll be starting my master’s studies in Energy Systems and Markets at Aalto University.

This has been my second summer at eSett, and over the past year I have had the opportunity to further deepen my understanding of the Nordic electricity markets and imbalance settlement. After my first summer at eSett, I continued working part-time alongside my studies throughout the academic year. During this time, I worked closely with customer onboarding, market participant support, and customer communications.

Through these tasks, I have gained a broader understanding of how different market actors interact and how imbalance settlement supports the functioning of the power system. I have also had the opportunity to assist customers with a variety of questions and onboarding activities, which has helped me develop both my market knowledge and communication skills.

One thing that has stood out during the past year has been how well I have been able to balance work and studies. The flexibility offered by eSett has made it possible to combine both in a way that supports my professional growth without compromising my academic goals. Whether it has been adjusting my working hours around lectures or exam periods, I have always felt trusted and supported.

Continuing to work alongside my studies has allowed me to build on the knowledge gained during my first summer and gradually deepen my expertise. At the same time, I have seen how closely my studies and work complement each other, as concepts from my courses have become much more tangible through practical experience and everyday market operations.

Looking back, I am especially grateful for the trust, flexibility, and supportive working culture that have made this balance possible. The opportunity to gain valuable industry experience alongside my studies has made the past year both rewarding and inspiring, and I am excited to continue growing and learning in the energy sector.

 

The summer has been filled with a variety of tasks and lots of new learnings. We are excited to see what the future holds as we continue at eSett in the autumn. We are also deeply grateful for everything we have learned throughout the summer. No lesson has gone to waste, and it has been a great experience to develop new skills and gain knowledge across a wide range of areas.
